Wolfscote Dale Ramble

28 November 2021

The Sutton-in-Ashfield Rambling Club continue their winter programme with a steady, nine mile circular ramble from Alstonefield, in the White Peak. A variety of attractive scenery to enjoy, including two beautiful dales and panoramic hilltop views.
The walk begins at the tranquil village of Alstonefield and after viewing the Greenwell we head north to Narrowdale Hill. There will be the option for the more energetic to climb to the top for great views. Continuing on then to explore Beresford Dale, the first of two beautiful dales.
We complete the morning section of the walk at Hartington village, which will be the lunch break, with a good selection of pubs or cafes.
In the afternoon we make a steady ascent to Hartington Hall and then head south to meet Raynards Lane. There then follows the highlight of the day as we join the northern end of Wolfscote Dale, a picturesque valley of the River Dove, which will be awash with late autumn colours. In about a mile we pause for a mid-afternoon break at the junction with Biggin Dale and then continue down Wolfscote Dale to Coldeaton Bridge. From there we finish with a fairly stiff climb back to the outskirts of Alstonefield. If time permits we may loop round via the church.
The Skills coach will depart at 4.15 pm.
