5 July 2026

Starting on the A54 road between Buxton and Congleton near Longgutter, we follow footpaths head south towards Wincle and its church. We then follow the road down to Danebridge where the Wincle brewery may be appreciated. From here we follow the Dane Valley Way through delightful woodland and farmland following the river to end up at Gradbach and the lovely café.
After lunch we head back a little and then up through a forest track descending some steep rocky steps to enter Lud’s Church, an impressive 18m deep chasm caused by a landslip. After emerging from the end of the chasm, we make our way through the woods to Roach End and on to the Roaches which is following the ridgetop and along the gritstone edge popular with climbers.
The path continues in the same direction on to Hen Cloud with a very easy scramble before heading down to cross to follow several footpaths northwards to reach the fantastic Ramshaw Rocks. We follow the path along the rocks southwards and down a river valley to finish at the pub just off the main road where the coach will pick us up at 6pm. The distance is an easy 12 miles.
Hopefully, a much shorter route will be on offer starting at Allgreave heading directly for the café and the along the Roaches over Hen Cloud and back to Ye Olde Rock Pub Inn.
As usual there is no need to book. Just go to one of the coach pick-up points listed here. If it’s your first walk with us the coach fare is free. New people are always most welcome.
