The Edges

16 August 2026

The summer programme continues with a classic 12 mile gritstone edges ramble in the White Peak. There should be exceptional panoramic views especially in the morning. Hopefully there will be the usual shorter walk option. New members continue to be made most welcome and they have a free coach journey on their first ramble.
The walk starts at the Robin Hood pub on the A619 close to Baslow. We then follow a glorious chain of edges in a north-westerly direction. Birchen, Blackstone, Baslow, Curbar and Froggatt Edges. Our efforts should be rewarded with great vistas all morning.
We eventually arrive at The Grouse Inn where there is an option to stop for a drink but the main lunch break will be at the Longshaw Lodge National Trust estate where refreshments and toilets will be available.
In the afternoon we head for the Burbage Bridge and from there take the track to Burbage Rocks. Continuing on to Higger Tor, across Mitchell Field and through to High Lees.
Our final destination will be the old railway station in Hathersage where the coach will pick us up for a 6.00pm departure home.
