Stanage Edge

10 July 2022

The Sutton-in-Ashfield Rambling Club continue their attractive summer programme with a choice of walks focussing on Stanage Edge, the mighty gritstone escarpment, on the edge of the Dark Peak area. There will be stunning views to enjoy whichever route you select. As always the club are very pleased to welcome new members. The rambles will start from Grindleford Station and follow the River Derwent into Hathersage where we will have a short mid-morning break. From Hathersage we gradually climb past many abandoned millstones up onto Stanage Edge and follow along the edge to High Neb where we will have a lunchtime picnic stop with ample time to admire the panoramic views. We then descend to Upper Burbage Bridge for another short break at which point there will be two options. 1. The shorter route takes the Dukes Drive path to Lower Burbage Bridge and finishing at the Fox House Inn for a 5.30pm coach departure home. This will complete an 11 mile walk. 2. The longer route will traverse Higger Tor and Carl Wark and descend to Lower Burbage Bridge Then follow Burbage Brook along Padley Gorge to arrive at Grindleford cafe. This will complete a 13 mile walk. The group will board the coach outside the Maynard Inn, in Grindleford at 5.45pm. Coach pick-up points below. No need to pre-book. Fare £12. Free for accompanied juniors.
