Monyash

8 December 2024

Our next ramble is an attractive eight mile circular walk in the heart of the White Peak  Lunch break in Monyash and other stops during the day to enjoy highlights of the ramble. As always new members most welcome. The walk starts at Haddon Grove and begins with a steady descent into Lathkill  Dale, one of the prettiest dales in the Peak District. We then follow the dale to Cales Dale and pause for a mid-morning break

  From here we continue through  Ricklow Quarry and onwards to the picturesque village of Monyash, situated in a shallow hollow on the limestone plateau at the head of the dale. Cafe and Pub refreshments available.

   In the afternoon we head northwards up to Highlow and proceed to the top of Deepdale. From this point we carry on to Sheldon, a little gem of a village overlooking the River Wye. There should be time for a brief visit to the village pub;

     Onwards then to visit the Magpie Mine, a well preserved disused lead mine. Hopefully there will be time for another short break and take the opportunity to learn a little more about the mine.

 This lovely walk finishes with  a short section back to Haddon Grove for a 4.00pm coach departure home,

As always we welcome new people on the walks. No need to book, just turn up at one of the following coach departure places.

The fare is only £12. Ring or email for more information if required.
