Matlock ramble

We start our walk at Rowsley and then follow the banks of the River Derwent along the Derwent Valley Heritage Way. We pass by the Peak Rail Heritage Railway, may get a chance to see a passing steam train. We will pass throgh Matlock and have time for a break. After our break we will visit the Matlock war memorial with fine vistas over the town. We cross the River Derwent and steadily make our way up up above the Heights Of Abraham passing the quaint St John The Baptist Church once a private chapel now a listed building built into a cliff face overlooking the Derwent Valley. We continue our walk to the charming village of Bonsall where there will be time to have a second short break. After leaving Bonsall we go to Uppertown passing a place that is “English eccentricity at its best” (i will leave this as a surprise for those that have never seen it). We then follow pleasant limestone meadowlands through the lovely hamlet of Ible to reach our final destination at Grangemill where our coach waits our return at 6.30 pm.

A walk of approximately 11 miles. Coach fare is £12. No need to book, just turn up at your preferred pick-up point.
