Limestone Way – Part 4 -Monyash to Castleton

16 April 2023

This 14 mile walk, is the final stage of the Limestone Way taking us from Monyash to Castleton. From Monyash we head over to the village of Flagg then, utilizing some quiet lanes and farm tracks, where we will have a short break, we reach and cross the A6 at the Waterloo Pub, now sadly closed.
Here we deviate slightly from the official route (to avoid a busy road) and walk through the hamlet of Priestcliffe before picking up footpaths which take us to a fabulous viewpoint above Millers Dale. The descent into the dale takes us around and then through the nature reserve before meeting the Monsal Trail which we follow a short distance to Millers Dale Station where we will have lunch. There is a cafe and toilets.
After lunch we utilise farm tracks again high above Monks Dale then walk through Peter Dale and Hay Dale before leaving the valley to cross the busy A623. We will take another short break during the afternoon.
From here we have a final climb before descending Cave Dale into Castleton for a 6.30 coach departure.
There are minimal facilities en route so please bring enough food and drink for the day. There are Toilets at Millersdale Station and you should be able to get a hot or cold drink and a snack.
