Latkill Dale

12 April 2026

The club commence their summer programme with an attractive 11 mile linear walk in the White Peak area. Lovely views throughout the day with a lunch break at the the Lathkil Hotel. A shorter walk should be available. New members are always made most welcome and their first coach ride is free.

The ramble starts at the pretty village of Monyash at the head of the western edge of Lathkill Dale. We ascend an easy slope to the north ridge of the Dale.passing the disused Ricklow Quarry We then descend to the path by the river and enjoy walking along the beautiful Lathkill Dale, a scenic limestone valley with its clear water and waterfalls. It is now a nature reserve but back in the 19th century it was a busy lead mining area. We shall see caves leading down to the old lead mines during our walk.

At an old water mill we climb a steep lane leading to toilets, a car park and the Lathkil Hotel which will be open for drinks and light lunches as we enjoy our main break.

In the afternoon we walk along a very pleasant section of the Dale continuing eastwards to Conksbury Bridge and another scenic village Alport.

Onwards then through Baltic Wood, with sunken quarries and glimpses of Haddon Hall in the distance. Our final destination will be the Rowsley Peak Village where there will be toilets and refreshments available.

Our coach will depart from here at approximately 5.15pm
