Dove Dale Ramble

23 January 2022

Dove Dale Ramble. Sunday 23rd January 2022

Dove Dale is a fantastic area for walking with atmospheric scenery and views. There will be hopefully a short and long option. The longer route. Approximately 11 miles will start from Ilam village and head for Bunster Hill with the possibility of going to the top of the hill or going by the side. A great view point. Then a flat section to Ilam Tops farm before a lovely path down into the dale which ends up at Ilam Rock. There will be an option of just following the river to Mill Dale or for going over the Nabs for the very fit members of the group. There are toilets at Mill Dale but the cafe is closed for winter. Hopefully everybody should be able to meet up at Mill Dale, where we will stop for lunch by the river. Bring bird food if you wish!

The afternoon walk will be following the river and turning off up Biggin Dale and walking along the lanes to Hartington village hopefully with time spare to visit a tea place or pub in the village.

The shorter route. Members will be dropped off at Thorpe village and walk into Lin Dale to the Stepping stones and follow the river upstream to Mill Dale perhaps meeting the rest of the group on the way to Mill Dale. In the afternoon continue to follow the river up Wolfscote Dale and over the fields to Hartington village. The whole route avoids any hill climbs. Please bring your own sandwiches and flask. The coach will pick up at Hartington village at 4.45 pm
