Cromford / Lumsdale Ramble
6 February 2022

The Sutton-in-Ashfield Rambling Club continue their winter programme with an attractive 10 mile linear walk from Black Rocks to Matlock via Cromford.
As always the club are very pleased to welcome new members and this would be a good steady initial ramble to choose.
From Black Rocks we pick up the High Peak Trail and walk the slight incline up to the Middleton Top Engine House. Toilets and refreshments available here where we will enjoy a mid-morning break. We then follow the edge of Middleton Moor and head through Middleton village.
Onwards then skirting Dene Quarry, through Slinter Wood and into the village of Cromford for our main lunch stop. A good choice of pubs and cafes or you may prefer a picnic by the Cromford Canal.
In the afternoon we head north eastwards to Bilberry Knoll, through the hamlet of Riber and across to Lumsdale After passing through some disused quarry works we cut across the northern fringes of Matlock to the The Wolds. The last section of this very interesting ramble descends Matlock Bank to finish at the new bus station in Matlock. The coach will leave from here at
5 pm.
