Chrome Hill

6 August 2023

We continue with our  attractive summer programme with an 11 mile linear walk  in the White Peak  between Flash  and Hartington. There  will  be picnic stops for lunch and tea  and a possible pub stop at Crowdicote.

The ramble will start from the village of Flash high up on  Axe Edge close to the source of the River Dove. The walk will follow the Dove valley for the majority of the day.

There  will be an initial descent along little used paths as we  enjoy scenic views and  then  follow close to the river. We will pass the tiny hamlet of Leycote,Booth Farm and Stoop Farm, contouring round to Chrome Hill. There will be the option to walk along the Chrome Hill ridge or take a more sedate route around the base.

We then continue to descend by the Dove to Glutton Bridge and  then join a track passing Underhill Farm and arrive at the village of Crowdicote   If  the Packhorse Inn is open  there will be the opportunity to pop in for refreshments.

Onwards then along the valley eventually reaching the distinctive Pilsbury Castle Hills We climb above the valley heading south enjoying good views  as we walk by the side of Carder Low.

The coach will depart from the village of Hartington at 6.30pm

New people are always most welcome to join us. In the morning the coach departs from the  “Staff of Life “pub in Sutton-in-Ashfield  at 9.15am and from the Bancroft Lane end of Stockwell Gate outside Asda in Mansfield at 9.30 am.
