Christmas Ramble – Cromford
12 December 2021

The Sutton-in-Ashfield Rambling Club continue their fortnightly winter programme with an easy 8 mile linear walk from Ambergate to Whatstandwell Bridge. This will be the always enjoyable Christmas Ramble with an extended lunch break at the Boat Inn in Cromford village for a buffert (this is optional, and needs to be pre-booked) and an informal sing-song. There will be a raffle, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Edale Mountain Rescue Team. If you could bring along a wrapped raffle prize, it would be appreciated. As always we are always very pleased to welcome new members.
The ramble begins at Ambergate near the Hurt Arms on the A610.and heads north through woodland adjacent to the River Derwent passing through the old wire works. We then veer north west to Alderwasley Park and continuing north along field paths to Watergate Farm. Onwards then to Longway Bank via woodland paths. This pleasant morning walk finishes with a steady descent into Cromford village and into the Boat Inn for lunch. In the afternoon the route takes us across the A6,around High Tor and links up with the pictureque Cromford Canal tow path. A straightforward walk back past High Peak Junction to arrive at our destination Whatstandwell Bridge for a 4.00 pm coach departure home.
