6 July 2025

This varied walk starts on the A6 near Topley Pike. We follow the path at the side of the quarry and up Deep Dale, to the caves. Brung a torch if you would like to explore.
We then zig-zag up the hillside and cross fields, along the top of the woods, overlooking a valley. Soon we will reach the pleasant hamlet of Cowdale. Leaving there we continue past the caravan site, and into the lovely Spa town of Buxton. We’ll stop at St. Anne’s Well, where you can fill up water bottles with Buxton water for free! Lunch can be a pic-nic in the park, or you can explore Buxton, maybe visiting one of the many cafes or pubs available. (Distance for the morning walk is four miles).
The afternoon walk will go through the lovely park, before making our way to Poole’s cavern. (cafe available). We follow the yellow route up the hill and through the woods to Solomon’s Temple. Climbing to the top gives great views of the surrounding area.
We then cut across open ground, looking down into the quarry and follow the Dane Valley Way to the road junction at Ladmanlow. Crossing the road, we head to the side of Terret Plantation onto open moorland at Hartington upper quarter, to Goslin Bar farm. We follow the dismantled railway above Burbage village, to Plex LOoge and then a road climbing up to Watford Farm, which has a lovely garden. Then down all the way to Buxton, through the park where we may have time to stop and drink, before weaving our way up to Buxton market place, for the coach home at 6pm. The total distance is twelve miles.
A shorter walk will be available – walking the same route into Buxton, at a more leisurely pace, many cafes available. A longer time in Buxton before going up to Solomon’s Temple and exploring the Country Park. Distance seven miles.
New walkers are most welcome. There is no need to book, just go to one of the coach pick-up points listed below. The fare is £14.
