Burrough Hill, Leicestershire

The walk takes in a section of the 100 miles Leicestershire Round long-distance walk, we will be doing a delightful section of the walk passing many pretty villages on the way and walking to the site of an Iron age fort. We start our walk at Frisby on The Wreake and walk over the gently rolling hills to the Gatsby Brook where our route climbs gently to the heights of Burrough Hill which brings you to the top of an iron age fort with spectacular views of the countryside around. We will descend a woodland track to Buttermilk Spinney then climb back to the rim of the Punch bowl.

We finish the walk at Somerby, a beautiful ironstone village set in lovely parkland.

This is a wonderful opportunity to walk through a section of rural “Middle England” that we are sure will be new walking territory to most of the club. It is advisable to take your own refreshments, although there may be an opportunity to stop at a nice Country pub along the way. We expect the walk to finish at 6pm.

There should also be a shorter walk available too.

As usual we welcome new people to our friendly club. If you want to give us a try, your first walk with us is free. After that the coach fare is only £14. There is no need to book. Just go to the most convenient bus stop, where our Skills coach will pick you up.
