Bakewell Ramble

Another attractive ramble in the White Peak this weekend. A steady 11-mile linear walk from Churchtown to Baslow encompassing lovely views, riverside paths, woods, picturesque villages, Bakewell and Chatsworth Park As usual a free coach ride for newcomers, who are always most welcome and there is usually a shorter walk option. The coach fare is £14

The walk begins at Churchtown, a pretty village located 2.5 miles north of Matlock set in beautiful scenery. We follow pleasant paths northwards by the River Derwent up to the village of Rowsley. We are walking close to the Peak Rail heritage line and if we are lucky, we may see steam trains on the move.

Upon reaching Rowsley we cross the river and walk through the village gradually ascending up to a wooded hillside commanding good views including Haddon Hall. We then continue, northwards eventually dropping down to follow a path near   the River Wye taking us into Bakewell

This will be our lunchtime stop with a multitude of cafes and pubs available or you may just prefer to have a picnic lunch by the river.

In the afternoon we take paths eastwards out of Bakewell and enjoy a very pleasant section of the walk across open country to the picturesque model village of Edensor where there will be time for a café refreshment break. From here we descend to the Chatsworth Park estate and finish this enjoyable route along the Derwent Valley Heritage Way into Baslow for a 5.30pm coach departure home. There will no doubt be time to partake of refreshments in Baslow before boarding the coach.
