Ashbourne

1 March 2026

The club return to the southern fringes of the White Peak for an attractive 9-mile circular walk from Ashbourne.  There are one or two choices en route. And there may be a shorter walk.  Lunch break at the Dovedale car park area with refreshments and toilets available. New members are always made most welcome and they are given a free coach journey on the first ramble.

The walk starts then from Ashbourne and follows the Tissington Trail for a short distance before leaving the Trail at Callow Top. We then descend to Mapleton and down to Oakover Bridge and follow the east bank of the River Dove past Thorpe Mill,  eventually reaching the main Dovedale car park area for our lunch break.

In the afternoon we head south-east from the Stepping Stones along the scenic Lin Dale path. The more energetic can go via Thorpe Cloud. Onwards then to the village of Thorpe and picking up the Tissington Trail again at the Station House. Finishing with a steady walk back down the trail into Ashbourne for a 5.00pm coach departure home.
