Ashover RambleThis Sunday the club are back on more familiar territory with a walk around Ashover. We start from Old Tupton (near Clay Cross) Grid reference SK389654. We head west initially following the official walk - the 'Chesterfield Round'. We go over undulating country to Press Farm and then climb steadily up to the hamlet of Alton and then on to Far Hill. This is a brilliant panoramic viewpoint with far-reaching views, where we'll have a morning break to take in the scenery.

From here we descend down into the attractive, award-winning village of Ashover where we enjoy a lunch break. For real-ale drinkers the village is of special interest, especially as The Old Poet's Corner, brews its own beer. There are two other pubs to choose from as well.

Suitably refreshed we leave Ashover following the Amber Valley to Milltown and then up to Ashover Hay, with more good views over Ogston Reservoir and beyond. Finally we head up to High Ordish, with more great views and walk past the remains of Trinity Chapel. We then walk down to Wessington for a 6pm finish (grid ref SK371576). Distance approx 11 miles.

We continue to welcome new members. The McEwans coach leaves the 'Staff of Life' pub on Hack Lane, Sutton-in-Ashfiled at 9.15am and the Bancroft Lane end Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. There are also other pick-up points en-route. The fare is £9 - accompanied juniors free. There is no need to prebook your seat on the coach.
