Sutton in Ashfield Rambling Club
The Sutton Rambling Club continue their popular varied winter programme on Sunday March 20 with an undemanding pastoral walk of 10.5 miles in the South Staffordshire area, including the Trent Valley.
The ramble will start 1/2 mile west of the hamlet of Rangemore (grid ref 177229) and head through fields and woods to Yoxall Park and onto Yoxall for our lunch break where there may be a pub open.
Suitably refreshed we then join the Millenium Trail through the Trent Valley to the village of Alrewas where there should be time for an early afternoon break.and where there will definitely be refreshments available. The route then takes us along a short stretch of the Trent and Mersey Canal and across the busy A38 which we will cross with extreme caution. We continue along a path around a lake and enter the National Memorial Arboretum. There should be approximately an hour to spend exploring this interesting site. The Arboretum closes at 5.00 pm at which point we will board the coach at the site car park (grid ref 182146) and be homeward bound.
We continue to welcome new members who would find this walk a gentle introduction to the club. We always offer healthy exercise, attractive scenery and friendly company.
The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate(near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. There are other pick up points en route. The fare is £9 with accompanied juniors free. There is no need to prebook your seat.
