Sutton in Ashfield Rambling Club
On Sunday (17th) the members of the Sutton Rambling Club will be enjoying a mixture of riverside, woodland and moorland scenery on the White Peak/Dark Peak borders.
The walk will start at the well known picturesque plague village of Eyam (grid ref 2177660 ) and head north onto Eyam Moor via Ladywash Farm and Ladywash Mine. There will be fine heather moorland and splendid views across to the Pennine Edges (weather permitting! ). The route will continue north to Stoke Ford which is an ideal spot for a mid-morning coffee break. The next stage is moving east to the village of Leadmill where the Plough Inn will be available for our main lunch stop.
In the afternoon we head back west to Offerton Hall and then return to more bracing moorland scenery across Abney Moor. We then return to Stoke Ford having completed a figure of eight shape and continue south along Bretton Clough and onto the tranquil hamlet of Bretton. The final section takes us further south to the pretty village of Foolow and finishes at Housley on the A623 (grid ref 193759) and we will have covered a distance of approx 10.5 miles. The coach will leave from here between 5.30 and 6.00 pm.
We continue to welcome new members and can offer a day of healthy exercise, attractive scenery and friendly company. The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. There are other pick-up points en route. There is no need to prebook your seat on the coach. The fare is £9.
