Sutton in Ashfield Rambling Club
On Sunday (19th) the Sutton Rambling Club will be heading for the White Peak and concentrating on Dovedale, undoubtedly one of the finest beauty spots in the Peak District and justly renowned for its scenic views. This will be a steady ramble of approximately 10 miles with several stops en route.
The walk will start at the village of Parwich (grid ref 188543) and head south-westwards along the Limestone Way crossing Bletch Brook and onwards to the idyllic little village of Tissington with its village green, church and manor hall. The route then moves north past Newton Grange crosses the A515 and continues west through the small hamlet of Standlow and we break for lunch at Milldale where refreshments and toilets will be available.
After lunch comes the highlight of the day as we walk south down beautiful Dovedale enjoying the tree lined river as it flows beneath the towering limestone cliffs and pinnacles. We then cross the stepping stones and proceed down Lindale to the village of Thorpe for a mid-afternoon tea stop. The last section of this lovely ramble then takes us north-east along the Tissington Trail across The Avenue and to Tissington Gates as we rejoin the A515. There should be time for a well earned drink at the Blue Bell pub just down the road and the coach will pick us up from a lay-by 50 yards away. (grid ref 172516) for departure home between 6.00 and 6.30pm.
We always welcome new members (17 this year to date) and can offer healthy exercise, attractive scenery and friendly company. The McEwens coach leaves the"Staff of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. There is no necessity to prebook your seat on the coach. The fare is £9. Other pick-up points are available en route.
