Sutton in Ashfield Rambling Club

This is a previous walk by the Sutton in Ashfield Rambling Club in the Peak District. Please click for details of the next walk or a walking calendar.

On Sunday (11th July 2010) the members of the Sutton-in-Ashfield will be enjoying the splendour of the northern fringes of the Dark Peak and also "Last of the Summer Wine" country.

There will be a choice of walks with 10 and 7 mile routes available.

The ramble will start on the A 635 at the car park near Featherbed Moss (grid ref 050065). We head south east across the fringes of Wessenden Head Moor to the Black Hill trig point. The route then covers a section of the Pennine Way and makes for Wessenden Head where a mobile cafe will be available for late morning refreshments. Suitably refreshed this splendid walk picks up the Kirklees Way and passes through woods and across bridges to Holme which will be our lunchtime stop at the Golden Fleece pub.

Wessenden Valley ramble 2010

There will be a shorter route on offer for this section between Wessenden Head and Holme.

In the afternoon there is a variety of scenery to enjoy as the ramble heads north east across fields, bridges, by waterfalls and through woodland to our final destination Holmfirth.

There will be some time to explore the town and also visit the famous cafe which will stay open especially for our group. It is anticipated that the coach will leave for home at approximately 5.30 pm from the centre of Holmfirth.

As always new members are always made most welcome and will be able to enjoy healthy exercise, attractive scenery and friendly company. There is no necessity to prebook your seat on the coach.
