Derwent valley rambleOn Sunday (24th January 2010) the members of the Sutton Rambling Club will be enjoying a pleasant and stimulating walk focusing on bracing moorland paths and also a section of the Derwent Heritage Way following alongside the river Derwent towards Hathersage. The distance is approximately 10 miles but may be shortened dependant on the prevailing weather conditions on the day.

This will be a circular walk starting from Hathersage and initially heading south to the Leadmill Bridge. The route then takes us westwards along farm tracks and field paths by Offerton Hall. We then gradually ascend Offerton Moor and and then follow a gravel track called Shatton Lane. This delightful section takes us south for a while until we reach Brough Lane. We then go north and have our lunch break at the Traveller"s Rest inn on the edge of Brough.

The afternoon walk follows Townfield Lane eastwards and then across fields until we reach the Derwent Heritage Way riverside path. There may be time to call into the Shatton Garden Centre for a cup of tea. It is then a steady walk by the river Derwent until reaching some stepping stones. There will be a choice of routes here-either
a. Crossing the stepping stones and then heading back into Hathersage via Jaggers Lane.

Continuing along the river path back to the Leadmill Bridge and then retracing our steps back into Hathersage.

The walk is scheduled to finish at 4.45 pm when we will board the coach in Hathersage for our return journey.

New members are made to feel most welcome and can be guaranteed healthy exercise, attractive scenery and friendly company.
