On Sunday, 24th February 2008 the members of the Sutton Rambling Club will be exploring pleasant countryside and interesting villages on the borders of South Derbyshire and Leicestershire.
This will be a 9 mile easy walk commencing at the village of Worthington and then heading north on the Cloud Trail for approximately a mile and a half .We then leave the trail and move north-west across fields to Breedon-on-the-Hill where we will have a mid-morning break..The ramble then continues west across to the tranquil village of Kings Newton where we will enjoy our lunchtime stop at the Ye Olde Pack Horse (hot food and hot and cold drinks available).
After lunch the walk continues along green lanes and field footpaths taking in the villages of Stanton-by-Bridge and Ingleby. We then proceed along part of the south bank of the River Trent visiting the ancient interconnected caves known as Anchor Church dating back to 1648.
Again after a short mid-afternoon break, the final couple of miles will be over footpaths and finish at the church in Repton in time for a 5.15 pm departure home.
This is an enjoyable but undemanding day and would be an ideal start for new members to get to know us and all about the club. There is no need to pre-book your seat on the coach.
The leader of the ramble is Bernard who can be contacted on 01623 648879
We hire a McEwens coach which leaves Langford Street end, opposite Asda in Sutton at 9.20 am and Bancroft Lane end,Stockwell Gate(near Netto supermarket) Mansfield at 9.30 am.
