Derwent Heritage Way
The walk will start in Bradwell village (grid ref 175810) and head off in a south-east direction by Robin Hood's Cross and onto the delightful tranquillity of Abney Moor.
There will be the opportunity to have a mid-morning break on the moor to drink in the wonderful views and your coffee! Suitably refreshed we continue south through the hamlet of Grindlow and the attractive compact little village of Foolow and finish the morning at Eyam which will have a choice of lunchtime refreshments available.
After lunch we continue south through the wood filled ravine of Eyam Dale and across the A623 to Darlton Quarry. Then it is time to head eastwards along Black Harry Lane, Rough Side and along Coombs Dale, a limestone dale renowned for its outstanding flora including some rare species. The next destination is the village of Calver where there is a choice of routes.
The longer version passes south through Bramley Wood and Bank Wood and curves round into Baslow.
The shorter version follows the footpath alongside the River Derwent until reaching Baslow.
The coach will depart from Baslow at 6.30pm.
As always new faces are made most welcome and can be guaranteed picturesque scenery, healthy exercise and friendly company. Currently we are seeing new people on every walk.
The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15 am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30 am. There are other pick-up points available en route.
