Peak District 1
in Ashfield Rambling Club
On Sunday, 10th February 2008 the members of the Sutton Rambling Club will be heading for attractive limestone dale country in the heart of the Peak District with Millers Dale as the focal point.
This will be a steady 10/11 mile ramble commencing near the hamlet of Housley just off the A623 (Grid Ref 193760). We then head off west across farmland passing Stanley House before changing direction and travelling south to Wardlow Mires.
The route then takes us through Cressbrook Dale,a lesser known but nevertheless attractive thickly wooded dale (the first of four dales that we shall be enjoying during the day). We then join up with the popular Millers Dale and continue westwards until we reach the "Jolly Anglers" for our lunch stop.
After lunch we continue our journey along the dales moving westwards through Millers Dale into Chee Dale and then Wye Dale.We break away from the dales via Topley Pike and head south towards the village of Chelmorton. This picturesque walk finishes by descending to the Waterloo Inn on the A6 (Grid Ref 132714) for a 5.00 pm departure home.
New members would be most welcome and you will get the benefit of healthy exercise within beautiful scenery. There is no requirement to pre-book your seat on the coach.
The leader of the ramble is Stan who can be contacted on 01623 758806.
