Information about a previous walk with the Sutton Rambling Club
On Sunday (22nd February 2009) the members of the Sutton Rambling Club explored a new area of beauty to the north-west of Sheffield. It will be a comfortable 10 mile walk with good views and contrasting terrain.
The ramble will start at Chapeltown immediately to the north of Sheffield (grid ref 349965) and head into open country until we reach the village of Wortley which will be the lunch stop. A choice of either a cafe or pub for refreshments.
In the afternoon we move south to enjoy spectacular views from the rugged Wharncliffe Crags, the centrepiece of the walk. We then continue south through Wharncliffe Wood and finish at the small town of Grenoside (grid ref335940) for a 5pm coach departure home.
This will be a good opportunity for potential new members to come along and perhaps see an area they have not seen before. It will be a comfortable pace with other stops en route. We always welcome new faces. There is no necessity to pre-book your seat on the coach.
The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life " pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15 am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30 am. There are other pick-up points available en route.
