Sutton in Ashfield Rambling Club

This is a previous walk by the Sutton in Ashfield Rambling Club in the Peak District. Please click for details of the next walk or a walking calendar.

On Sunday (8th February 2009) the members of the Sutton Rambling Club will be enjoying the countryside on the south-eastern borders of the Peak District. The ramble will be over fairly easy terrain and cover a distance of 11 / 12 miles. We will be visiting several villages and hamlets en route.

The walk will start at the village of Wessington (grid ref 371579) and head northwards to Brackenfield. We then press on to enjoy the beauty of Ogston Reservoir and pause to view the club's Memorial seat and probably have a mid-morning break. The walk continues in a north-westerly direction through Milltown and onwards to the quiet village of Ashover in its pleasant situation amidst rocky scenery. This will be an ideal place for a lunch stop with a choice of refreshments available.

Ogston Reservoir, Peak District Ramble

In the afternoon we start to head south, passing through Town End and Handley before revisiting Ogston Reservoir along its eastern side. The final section of the ramble takes us east through Mickley and Morton to finish near Tibshelf (grid ref 440609) for a coach departure home between 5.00 and 5.30 pm.

Shorter routes may be available.

New members are most welcome. You do not need to pre-book your seat on the coach.

The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life " pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15 am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30 am. There are other pick-up points available en route.

Please click to see other pick-up points available.
