On Sunday (5th October 2008) the members of the Sutton Rambling Club will be enjoying a variety of attractive scenery, a combination of river, moor, ridge and valley, within a 10 mile circular ramble starting from the village of Hathersage (grid ref SK232813).
The walk begins with a gentle amble alongside the River Derwent until we stop for lunchtime refreshments at either the Bamford Garden Centre or Bamford village.
We then gradually descend from Stanage edge passing North Lees Hall which is associated with Charlotte Bronte of Jane Eyre fame.We reenter Hathersage via the churchyard and can take the opportunity of viewing Little John's Grave before continuing into the village centre and onto to the Train Station for a 6.30 departure home.
New members are always made most welcome and would find this a comfortable first walk conducted at a steady pace with plenty of time to enjoy the autumn colours. It is advisable to bring your own supplies of food and drink for the longer afternoon section.Although our numbers are gradually increasing there is still no requirement to pre-book your seat on the coach.
The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15 am and Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am.
