The Sutton Rambling Club continued their wide ranging programme of summer walks with a spectacular 11 mile linear ramble in the Dark Peak area of the Peak District. There was a wealth of attractive scenery to enjoy as the route traverses open moorland, farm tracks, woodland and ultimately alongside the Peak Forest canal.
The walk will start at Sparrowpit (grid ref 091806),a hamlet at the junction of A623/B6061. It then heads north east past Rushup Farm and Rushup Hall.. Shortly after the Hall we veer northwest by the Tom Moor Plantation and across open country to Royce Clough Ford and onwards to scenic views at South Head. The final section of the morning walk continues on to the village of Hayfield which will be our lunch break location with a choice of refreshments available.
In the afternoon there will be a steady walk west along the Sett Valley Trail and into the town of New Mills. We then head south past Goytside farm and follow the Midshires Way and finish this lovely walk along the Peak Forest Canal path to our final destination the town of Whaley Bridge (grid ref 010815) The coach will depart for home at 6.30pm.
