The Sutton Rambling Club visited the very spectacular scenery in the heart of the Dark Peak area. The views were dramatic with the autumn heather coming into full bloom. The linear ramble was approximately 13 miles with picnic lunch and tea en route.
The walk will start at the small town of Hayfield (grid ref 038868) and head north-eastwards past Kinder Reservoir and onwards up the Kinder Edge where we should be rewarded with great views.. We continue east to the highlight of the walk, Kinder Downfall, which will be an ideal location for a picnic lunch stop. The Downfall marks the edge of the Kinder Plateau and the waterfall cascades down these western slopes in dramatic terrain.
After this break the route heads south along the Pennine Way and descends by Swines Beck and good panoramic views of the Edale valley unfold.. We then head east along the lovely ridge of Rushup Edge where an afternoon tea break may be enjoyed. The final section of this memorable walk descends under Mam Tor (the shivering mountain) and continues past the Blue John and Treak caverns to finish at the main car park in Castleton (grid ref 150829) no later than 6.30 pm for coach departure home.
New members are always welcome and they can look forward to a day of healthy exercise, attractive scenery and friendly company.
