The Sutton Rambling Club continue their popular programme of winter walks with a 10.5 mile walk in the Lincolnshire Wolds this coming Sunday (6th). The Wolds are classed as an area of outstanding national beauty (AONB) and provide memorable views to reward at times fairly demanding terrain. There is an 8 mile shorter route option.
The walk starts at Normanby le Wold (grid ref RF 120951), one of the highest points in Lincolnshire at 543 feet above sea level. The first section follows the Viking Way to the village of Walesby which will be an ideal location for a mid morning break. There will be time to visit the All Saints Church (also known as the Ramblers Church). It is sited amongst the earth works of the medieval village and has a glorious stained glass window depicting Christ with 20th century ramblers! After this interesting break we head off to the village of Tealby visiting The Kings Head Pub for our lunch stop. This pub is the oldest thatched pub in Lincolnshire.
In the afternoon we move on to and through Willingham Woods and Dog Kennel Woods and to Northwood Farm. We complete the route through Legsby Wood to Woodhill Farm and ultimately into Market Rasen finishing at the Aston Arms in the market place (grid ref TF 106891). The coach will leave at 6.00pm.
We continue to welcome new members. We can always offer healthy exercise, attractive scenery and friendly company.
The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. There are other pick up points en route. The fare is £9, accompanied juniors free. There is no need to prebook your seat on the coach.
