On Boxing Day the members of the Sutton Rambling Club will be taking an early opportunity to gently work off any Christmas overindulgence in a popular attractive part of the White Peak. They will be enjoying a steady ramble of approximately 9 miles duration. The length/route may be shortened depending on the weather conditions.
The starting point will be the charming village of Rowsley (grid ref 258661) situated at the confluence of the Derwent/Wye rivers. The morning route takes us north-west across farmland and woodland taking in picturesque views of the Wye valley, until after about 3.5 miles we reach our lunchtime destination, the attractive well known market town of Bakewell. There will be plenty of choice for lunchtime refreshment and a chance to explore the town.
In the afternoon the walk leaves the Wye and moves north to the tranquil hamlet of Rowland. Soon afterwards we then turn east and cut across country into Bubnell and finishing at the pretty village of Baslow, on the east bank of the Derwent river.(grid ref 257722) The coach will leave from outside the main Baslow car park at approximately 4.15 pm.
As always new members are made to feel most welcome and can look forward to a day of healthy exercise, delightful scenery within a friendly club atmosphere.
The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15am and the Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. There are other pick up points en route.
