Sutton in Ashfield Rambling Club

On Sunday (28th December 2008) the members of the Sutton Rambling Club will be enjoying a steady local walk around the Chesterfield/Ashover area (an aerial shot of Ashover is pictured below).

Ashover

The walk starts at Walton on the south-west edge of Chesterfield (grid ref 369 697) and heads south by the golf course and on through Walton Woods. A little further south we will arrive at the Great Pond of Stubbing which will be a pleasant stop for a mid-morning coffee break. We then continue south past Hazelhurst and High Ashes Farms and reach our late lunch destination, the award winning village of Ashover where refreshments will be available.

After this good break there just remains a 2 mile afternoon section. There is a short ascent to the hamlet of Fallgate and then a final ramble south past Ashover Hay Farm before boarding our coach home at 4.00pm on the B6014 (Grid ref 364607).

New members most welcome to come along and have a gentle introduction to the club and fill in that gap between Christmas and New Year. There is no requirement to pre-book your seat n the coach.

The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9. 15 am and Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9. 30am.
