Sutton in Ashfield Rambling Club

On Sunday (30th November 2008) the members of the Sutton Rambling Club will be enjoying a fairly leisurely 9 mile ramble in the very popular Chatsworth Park area of the Peak District.

The walk will start from Baslow and take a gentle climb through Chatsworth Park up to Dobb Edge. We then head south through woodland until we reach the Emperor Lake. This will make a very pleasant spot for a mid-morning coffee break. The ramble then continues south through Stand Wood and then descends to the pretty village of Beeley for our lunch break where either a cafe or pub will be on offer.

In the afternoon there will be a choice of routes.The shorter version will be a gentle amble back alongside the river Derwent heading back north through Chatsworth Park until reaching Baslow for a 4.30 coach departure home..The main route will take us across to Calton Lees and continuing west to Calton Houses. There is then a steady descent through Calton Pastures which takes us to Edensor village.The final section is an easy stroll through Chatsworth Park back to Baslow.

As always new members are most welcome and this would be an ideal first ramble with the choice of walks. There is no necessity to pre-book your seat on the coach.

The McEwens coach  leaves the "Staff of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9. 15 am and Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9. 30am.
