Eyam WalkThis is a previous walk by the Sutton in Ashfield Rambling Club in South Derbyshire. Please click for details of the next walk or a walking calendar. On Sunday (21st September 2008) the members of the Sutton Rambling Club will be enjoying a steady 10 mile circular ramble in the Eyam area of the White Peak. This is a golden opportunity to view wonderful moorland scenery. The first part of the afternoon route takes us north-east towards Abney Grange with panoramic views over the hills with Bretton Clough cutting in deeply on our right.. Just before Abney Grange we head north for a delightful walk across Abney Moor. We eventually turn east across the northern fringes of the moor and drop down by Oaks Farm and then south to Stoke Ford for our mid-afternoon break. The final section of the walk takes us south, with more breathtaking views, and we pass through Gotherage and Big Moor Plantations until reaching the Sir William Hill Road. The very energetic members of the party can then take the option to visit the Barrel Inn at Bretton but the main party will take the shorter route following the road to the hamlet of Highcliffe and then descending into Eyam for a 6.30 departure home. New members are, as always, most welcome. The leader of the ramble is John who can be contacted on 01623 796396. The McEwens coach leaves the "Staff of Life" pub on Hack Lane in Sutton-in-Ashfield at 9.15 am and Bancroft Lane end, Stockwell Gate (near the Netto supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. Please click to see other pick-up points available. If you would like further information about the club please phone John on 01623 796396 or Diane on 01623 408704 or click for the 2008 programme of walks and previous walks. |
